Birko-Flor® is a synthetic alternative to leather that is made to be durable, easy to clean, and comfortable against the skin. The footbed lining on this sandal is a genuine suede leather, so this sandal is not part of Birkenstock's vegan collection.
We like to think of this style as Birkenstock's answer to a flip flop or slide due to it's low foot coverage. Because of it's single strap structure, it will have more of a "flip flop" sensation than their more supportive uppers of multiple straps.
